First Settlers Region-PCA: Cruisin' for a Cause

First Settlers Region-PCA: Cruisin' for a Cause

About This Campaign

The First Settlers Region Porsche Club of America and Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads (Habitat SHR) are joining forces to help a family achieve their dream of homeownership.

Since 2009, First Settlers Region has made it a priority to contribute to our communities through a robust Charity/Community Service program. Our members, club sponsors and event attendee have generously contributed $221,085 and 37,831 pounds of food to various charitable organizations in Hampton Roads.

In 2018, we have set our goals even higher! With your help, we will build a house through Habitat SHR's Habitat for Heroes initiative. Habitat for Heroes provides affordable housing solutions for Veteran and active-duty military families in South Hampton Roads.

We hope you will share in this opportunity to help a deserving family by sending in your pledge today! Your pledge amount should reflect your 2018 financial commitment to the Habitat for Heroes project and is tax deductible. The objective is to reach our pledge goal of $50,000 by April 30th, 2018 and to fully fund this project in 2018. Campaign to Support Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads

Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads (Habitat SHR) was founded in 1988.

HabitatSHR has since afforded more than 250 families the opportunity to become homeowners and are doing our part to help break the cycle of generational poverty.

Breaking the Cycle of Generational Poverty
Habitat for Humanity has proven that the Cycle of Generational Poverty can be broken through the Habitat model of a “Hand-up; not a Hand-out.” Three milestones can be measured that depict how Habitat families purchasing affordable housing break the Cycle of Poverty:

First Milestone (Short Term)
AVERAGE MONTHLY HOUSING SAVINGS OF $400 (new mortgage verses old rent) PROVIDES IMMEDIATE BUDGET RELIEF
This increase in the family’s disposable income is life-changing as it enables them to purchase better quality food, pay for dental and medical care, secure more reliable transportation, obtain safe child care services and pursue educational opportunities.

Second Milestone (Medium Term)
FAMILIES IMMEDIATELY START TO BUILD AND ACCRUE HOME EQUITY
Owning a home is the #1 way most American families build wealth. This includes low-income families who, in most instances, have no wealth building opportunities

Third Milestone (Long Term and Sustaining)
CHILDREN GROWING UP IN HOMES ARE 25% MORE LIKELY TO GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL, 50% MORE LIKELY TO GRADUATE COLLEGE AND 60% MORE LIKELY TO BE HOMEOWNERS THEMSELVES
These are sustainable factors in Breaking the Cycle of Poverty as they are passed from generation to generation.

Hi Everyone. First of all we would like to thank all of our members and sponsors of FSR that have donated to our Habitat for Hero's home. I would also like the thank the people that are not members of FSR for taking the time and caring enough to donate to our building this home. We have waited until the first week in April to calculate our pledges and donations and send them in to Habitat for Humanity. The reason for this was to see if we could raise the $12,000 to start this project. You will be so happy to know that we have exceeded our expectations with over $36,000 donated to this point. All the business sponsors and individual sponsors should be posted by next week. Anyone that has not sent in their pledges still have time to donate to make this project happen. Our next step is finding the veteran family and where the house will be built. So exciting.... We will keep you updated. The spring event "Porsches & Piñatas Cruisin for a cause" will be on May 5th. Look for it on Motorsportreg soon.
Thanks for your dedication to this Home.
